About
Kate
I have been in private practice for the past 30 years and I am a highly trained and experienced clinician. Clients who come to see me are often seeking assistance for both personal and work-related issues. Such issues can include anxiety and depression, grief and loss, relationship concerns, challenges with emotional and physical closeness and difficulties with IBS, chronic headaches and other physical symptoms.
I use an evidence-based approach that focuses on helping clients gain a deeper understanding and experience of their emotions and thoughts. This in turn can lead to not only symptom reduction but lasting change. Therapeutic outcomes can include an end to difficult and destructive patterns of behavior, a deeper awareness of self, and stronger and richer relationships. Clients frequently describe my work as focused and as having clear goals. My therapeutic style has been described as actively engaged, warm and empathic, and patients describe the therapeutic process as potentially transformational.
I have had extensive postgraduate training in both individual and relationship therapy as well as training in sex therapy. I am a Clinical Member of the Ontario Society of Psychotherapists as well as a certified Emotionally Focused Couples therapist (EFT), currently the only certified EFT therapist in Guelph.
I am a registered member with both the the Ontario College of Social Workers and the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, and as such, I am covered under some health plans.
